Things looking up maybe?

I hung out with Aya on Wednesday! I haven't seen her since my junior year of high school.

Thursday, I went to the Renoir exhibit in Roppongi with Kevin. It was huge!

On Friday, Corey, Azlan, Ahsan and I all went to nomihodai. Corey and I lost Azlan in Kabukicho. (He's back now).

I got to see Masaki again on Friday and Saturday. On Saturday, he introduced me to his friend Kyohei and he introduced us to his friend Aimi. It was nice. We went to WaraWara in Shibuya, then we went and did purikura. Aimi gave Masaki and I Valentine's chocolate.

Mica's back in Tokyo for now. I'm so glad.

Aki's moving here in April! I'll actually have other Japanese friends in Tokyo soon. =D

School is killing me. I have homework and a quiz in Japanese pretty much every day, and at least one essay a week in English.

I'm thinking of dropping my Japanese minor because this Japanese class is ridiculous (aside from the homework/quizzes). This might be my last college Japanese class. I dunno yet. I can't wait to start Korean in the fall.

There are some issues between me and some other people in the dorm. Apparently, no matter where you go in the world, there will be fake ass bitches.

Kara's birthday party is this weekend. I can't wait.

Sometimes...

I seriously question my decision to come here.

There have been rumors going around the dorm that the school will lose accreditation, but I think they're just rumors.

A couple people have been getting screwed when it comes to financial aid, but I haven't been, so that's good.

I got to hang out with Kenji on Friday. It was nice to see him again.

I'm still not 100%, but I'm doing better. Mostly my throat's hoarse and my nose is a tad stuffy.

I know you're probably wondering about pictures. They'll be posted to Facebook asap. I have a lot going on right now.

When I was walking to JUSCO from the 100¥ store, I saw Paul, one of my dorm managers. He said "You blend in with the shadows, like a lady of darkness." It made me laugh.

I rediscovered an amazing artist. I'm thinking of getting a tattoo of her work.

Speaking of tattoos, I really one another one, but here, they're super expensive. For a tattoo the size of a cigarette carton, it's about ¥30,000 or ~$300. I have a stupidly long list of tattoo ideas and I hope to get them all done someday. I also miss unnatural color in my hair. Some of my friends and family don't understand that's it's like a compulsion for me: it's normal for me to spontaneously get a new tattoo or piercing or put purple back in my hair. I don't like looking and feeling "normal." I hate it. I'll be very unhappy if I find a job that requires me to remove my facial piercings. Maybe trying some fake extensions would help with the hair part; they're removable.

I hope my dad sends my box soon, all my nice interview clothes are in there and clothes here don't fit my American ass.

I know, I'm crap at updating.

So, I'm sick. Not fun. The only reason I've been coming to school is because of tests.

Yesterday, some dude was randomly asking me for my info outside of Tamachi. I couldn't even play the "I don't speak Japanese" card cuz his English was really good, then on the was home, some old/fat/bald Middle Eastern-looking guy wouldn't stop staring at me on the train. The night before that, when it was pissing rain before the snowfall started, this Nigerian dude was holding his umbrella over me on the way to Tamachi from school. Unwanted male attention = not cool.

I finally found the damn Apple store in Shibuya, so I can now use internet in my room. The Apple store looked pretty much like the ones in America, except the employees were obviously Japanese. It's right across from the three-story Disney store.

LNaia is leaving today. Sadness. Temple fucked with her financial stuff, so she can't stay. That makes me worry about coming semesters.

Tokyo has a lot of foreigners, but you wouldn't know it from the way most Japanese act around us. If they have an option to not be near you, they'll go for it. And they stare. Oh god, do they stare.

I'm supposed to meet Aya tomorrow and maybe Kenji on Friday, but I don't want to get them sick. =/ And Akihiro is moving here to Tokyo in April! Yay!

Kevin & I are going to go to the Borghese exhibit in Ueno and the Renoir exhibit in Roppongi. I'm so excited!

Aki, one of our dorm managers, is pretty much the nicest man ever. I don't know how he deals with all of us. The other dorm manager, Paul, is pretty cool too for the most part.

There's been some drama between the SA (Study Abroad) students and the JA (Japan Admit) students in the dorm, but apparently that's normal.

John Wu, my math professor, is crazy and awesome. Mariko, my Asian Studies and English professor, is also really cool.

I got interviewed by a random TV crew on my way to Tokyo Tower on Saturday.

Saturday before last, a bunch of people and I went to Club Camelot. It was fun, but we missed the last train, so we didn't get home until like 6am on Sunday morning. I don't wanna do that again for a long time.

Kyung and Jeong want me to visit them in Seoul, and I want to, but I don't have the money. I also wanna visit everyone in Nagoya, but again, poor college student.

I don't know if it's true, but people have been saying that a foreigner here in Tokyo who did video blogs died. That's sad. Does his family know? I would hope that if something happened to me, somebody would let my family know.

A couple weeks ago on the train, a little boy was staring at me. He was telling his father that I had "something in the lip and nose" and I was trying so hard not to laugh. His father kept telling him to be quiet. I kind of wanted to tell them I could understand them.

There's an internship with Tokyo Art Beat that I want to apply for, but none of my work experience deals with art. Murr.

Well, I'm off.

Rabblerabblerabblerabble.

My ass is going to be kicked, academically.

I'm taking Advanced Japanese I, Math, English, and Chinese & Japanese Literature. English & Asian Studies (Lit) are taught by the same woman. She's cool. My math prof looks like an Asian-American mountain man.

Campus is tiny.

I'm continuing to network.

Tokyo is crazy. I don't think I'll ever get used to the trains.

I got to hang out with Mica on Thursday and Masaki yesterday. Hopefully I'll see Aya soon, I pass Meguro Station every time I go to Shibuya or Harajuku.

My phone is sweet. I finally got a bank account on Friday and soon I'll be getting my gaijin (alien) card.

Living in a different country is strange. I keep forgetting that I'm the weird-looking foreigner. I'm sure the piercings don't help.

I keep finding neat places to shop. It makes me sad because I have to save my money for food and for finding an apartment.

There has been some drama with some people but it's blown over, which is good.

My career options are somewhat limited. I don't want to teach English. I want to do something with art, tattoos, or bands/music.

Time to continue homework.

Orientation...

is over. So I just have to take placement tests for English, math, and Japanese. Blegh.

All this orientation stuff makes me feel like a freshman again.

I played L4D tonight with Lee. I only actually died once, I was amazed.

Aki & Paul, our dorm managers, are pretty chill, which is nice.

Japanese trains still freak me out a bit.

I'm continuing to meet people, which is good.

Seeing certain things around Tokyo make me giggle. Mostly silly Engrish, but other things too.

Walking from the train station to campus, you can see (what I think is) Tokyo Tower.

I hope to explore more of Tokyo this weekend if I get a chance (though I won't be in Roppongi at night).

Places I want to visit before I leave Japan (if I have the time & money):
Nagoya
Osaka
Kyoto
Hokkaido (mostly Chitose)
Taiwan
Seoul
Shanghai, Beijing, or Hong Kong
and of course I want to go back to Sadogashima!

Japan

So I spent all of New Year's Day flying.

I effing hate airplanes.

I finally got to Tokyo, got to my hotel, passed out.

Second day, I decide to venture. I didn't know where the shuttle was going. This tan foreign girl next to me asks, I tell her I dunno. Her name is Saba, she's Persian and lives in Canada.

So we make our way to to the temple in Narita (there was a crapload of people there). We poke around, take pictures, look at different shops.

We make our way back, chill, then part ways (she's in Malaysia now).

Today, I woke up, showered, had milk, coffee, and an orange for breakfast. Headed to the airport, then took the bus to the hotel where I'd meet the TUJ people. From there, we came to the dorms.

My dorm is TINY (pics later).

I met a some girls on my floor, Yuni (she's from Singapore), Lucia (she's from Paris but I'm pretty sure she's Chinese), Jade, Samantha, and one or two more.

So, yeah. Orientation begins tomorrow.

FINALLY

So I'll be leaving for Japan on the 1st.

TUJ, here I come!
